Letter: If article 7 is not passed then black Belizeans future will be further doomed |
 |
Dear Sir:
Ladies and gentlemen, all that have been said here is true and holds great weight in the poverty that dwells within the Black and Indian communities in Belize . But who can we really blame for all this, yes a lot may want to point fingers at the politicians and indeed they are to be held accountable for their actions or inactions thereof. I will say it with all conviction and no remorse; UDP and PUP have both neglected the people of the south for many years. The people of the south have always been last in almost every form of life enhancement or economical advancement that played itself out in the jewel of ours. The politicians never care to really make that noted difference that would be the starting point to a better quality of life for our people. Majority of us seek not wealth but only a better quality of life and a way out of poverty but even our own that are sent to Belmopan for 5yrs or more, can’t seen to make this a reality. It’s like they all have no balls to do what is necessary for their people. Thus the saga continues year in year out and the Garifunas, Creoles, and Indians of the south, remains in poverty or better to say, ‘just below survival line’.
Now some may say we’ve found our root problem and the case is solve. Not really, there is a major underlying disease that we have allow ourselves to be crippled by that have brought the south to the present position it is in. Yes every on of the reps that have been sent from the south to work on our behalf have be failures or somewhat just a little above the failure line but that does not undermine the fact that a better quality of life is our sole responsibility. We are not to sit back a expect GOB or any other country’s government to grant us a silver spoon. We must work for it. Now some of you will probably find my point of view distastefully and will probably not care to interact with me after this is all said and done but the reality is that the people of the south have become so darn lazy that they have single handily held themselves back. I would like to use a choice word here but due to the fact that I don’t know many of you I will try not to temper my words. The are several controllable factors that we the people of the south, Indians, Creoles, Garifunas and East Indians have allow to manifest itself into a form of normalcy that we don’t even think of it’s contributing power to our overall downfall. Take into consideration the following:
: A few of the educated, leave the south and head up north or to the US to teach others besides their own and never look back at the south. (This is a lost of vital educational resource the south needs)
: Those that have left for foreign land and have educated themselves, created a better quality of life for their immediate family, care not to go back to poverty stricken beginnings, the south. (Once again a lost of vital educational resource and the much needed financial resource) I personally know of a guy whose’ family tree stems from the south who is a Millionaire in Los Angeles . He told me out of his own mouth that he would never go back there. Sad but true.
: Those that are sent to Belmopan to represent the south become complacent and bullheaded or they are elected because of family ties, looks, political ties or popularity.. (These are all wrong reasons to elect someone but we in the south for that matter in the country still do it)How stupid are we to believe that this way of choosing someone to govern over our wellbeing is fine. Sticking a vote on someone because you are UDP or PUP is the dumbest shit you can do to your future and that of your kids but every election we have these die hard PUP and UDP individuals that get taken advantage of because of their ignorance or just down right stupidity. Oh and to add insult to injury, we leave them there in power for the full term. Isn’t there laws that allow the masses to remove an incompetent leader? If there isn’t any on the books why haven’t we the people fought for those rights yet? This brings me to my next statement.
: We the people of the south lack the balls to fight. (This lack thereof is one of our greatest weaknesses)We have always been known to the rest of the country as the soft spoken ones or as my nephew would say, punks. Yes we have been a bunch of weak individuals that have just never been able to rally up enough guts to speak the truth, stand up for the truth, and fight for the truth at any cause. One out of the team get slap down, the rest of us; tuck away our little tales between our legs and run like a girl. We become silence at every sign of defeat instead of holding our grounds.
: We are stuck in our ways. (Lack of foresight) far too many of us are stuck in our old ways and care not to entertain thoughts that will bring about change or we are just scared of change so we find it easy to accept defeat before even starting. We fail to challenge authority or the lack thereof. What we fail to realize there is power in numbers and if we just find the balls to fight for our rights and what is due to us, we can all move forward towards a better quality of life.
We the people of the south are our number one reason for our failures, not the government. We put them there so we should have the power to remove them if they fail us. The people have always been the movers and shakers of many nations, the government just enforce the laws and rules to ensure civility amongst its people. The people of the Toledo and the Stann Creek district need to wake the hell up and stop being passive, stop accepting any little BS the GOB and our local area reps feed us. There is always a way to resolve anything in life, you just have to be willing to pay the cost for the rewards it brings. These are my point of view, if you agree, I’m glad you see the light, and if not, I could care less.
