I hasten to write concerning the proposed change in the Belizean Constitution to allow Belizeans with Dual Citizenship to run for public office and the right to vote in Belize using a similar system used by other countries in the Diaspora. I think this is a long overdue aspiration of Belizeans living abroad.

Belize government settles with yacht owners for reef damage |

BELMOPAN, Belize -- The government of Belize has reached an agreed settlement with the owners of the luxury yacht “Azteca” which had damaged the reef when it ran aground near San Pedro in April of this year. The agreement calls for the payment of US $400,000 to be paid in installments of US $100,000.

The problem with Article 7 of the Belize Constitution is that it is lawful for a foreigner who becomes a naturalized Belizean citizen to become a member of the National Assembly and Prime Minister of Belize and unlawful for a natural born Belizean citizen to become a member of the National Assembly and Prime Minister.

Beginning next week throughout our country of Belize, our government is going to commence consultations with our people on two important constitutional amendments to Article 7 of our constitution. Many Belizeans living abroad, including myself, are strongly in support of these two amendments.
